Title: Addiction, Opioids and Beyond

Description:

This lecture first focuses on exploring definitions of Substance Dependency and Addiction.  Next, we will look at Opioid Epidemiology and Addiction Physiology followed with an overview of Substance Treatment strategies involving both Pharmacological and Non-Pharmacological modalities.  We will then look at Opioid side effects and their role in pain prescription practices.  Finally, an overview of MAT covering Buprenorphine, Methadone and Naltrexone, along with a brief mention of Naloxone.

Bio:

Prior to college and medical school, DR. CLEVELAND served with distinction with the 101st Airborne   Division.  Following his Honorable Discharge, DR. CLEVELAND attended UC Santa Cruz where he received a Minor in Music and a BA in Psychology, followed by 3 more years of Graduate Work.  Eventually, DR. CLEVELAND attended and graduated in 2002 from UC Davis Family Medicine Residency and has been a practicing physician in both Family and Addiction Medicine for over 16 years.

DR. CLEVELAND is currently Board Certified in Family Medicine and Board Certified in Prevention Medicine with Subspecialty in Addiction Medicine.  He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and The American Society of Addiction Medicine.  DR. CLEVELAND also has Academic Appointments as Associate Professor at California Northstate University College of Medicine.

Over the last decade Dr. Cleveland has served as Medical Director of CoRR (Community Recovery Resources), helping create and build a unique and expansive Substance Treatment Campus located in Grass Valley, with additional centers throughout Nevada and Placer County.  He is currently developing and enhancing CoRR’s Residential Programs, including both a Medication Assisted Treatment Program and a Medical Treatment Facility.

He is also currently a Physician and Special Programs Manager at Wellspace Health, currently assisting in developing programs in Hepatitis C, HIV, Chronic Pain, Transgender, Psychiatry and Substance Dependency, as well as currently pursuing an MBA at Sacramento State University.
